19 September, 2003 - Practice for the final round of the 2003 Ford KartStars Series began today at South Australia's Bolivar Raceway. With this weekend's round being presented by Shell Helix Racing the battle for the Series Championship going down to the wire between two divers all eyes were firmly fixed on Andrew Thompson and Troy Woolston.
15-year-old Thompson said "The kart is consistently fast but it is not quite perfect for driveability, we have just got to work on that a bit if I am going to finish the Series with a win."
While Woolston's comment was "It's early in the weekend but I will just be worry about myself and the job at hand."
Throughout the day the pair were consistently amongst the fastest around the 755 circuit along with Taz Douglas, who finished runner-up in the corresponding round last year, joined them.
Douglas was on the pace from the start of the day consistently lapping in the mid 35-second bracket. "We have done nothing special in preparation for this event but as soon as we pulled it out the trailer, zippo, I was on the pace," smiled the likeable Victorian. "After what has been a disappointing year I would like to finish it with a good result."
Josh Arandt was also labelled as one of the frontrunners throughout the day in his Garden Aspects CC Racing Kart.
Right behind this quartet was a gaggle of karts including last year's pole sitter Nick Parker in his Supalign/Just Align machine, INXS Panasonic pilot Reif Corbett, Konica's Blake Mills and Lawncare driver Ben Guest.
In the Super Cheap Auto Junior Blitz Series the three Championship contenders, Jordie Lindstrom, Kristian Lindbom and James Love exchanged fastest times in Junior Sportsman throughout the day.
Qualifying for the final round of the Ford KartStars Series begins at 11:50am tomorrow followed by two rounds of heats. Finals will be held on Sunday afternoon.
All Ford KartStars drivers use identical Australian made Arrow chassis on Bridgestone YGK tyres powered by Rotax FR125 Max engines using Shell Optimax fuel.
