FIRSTKART.COM AND ALAN RUDOLPH CLAIM KING OF THE STREETS TITLE IN ROCK ISLAND
"Second King of the Streets victory in the past five years for First Kart"
Brownsburg, Indiana -- September 4, 2007 -- With a great results at the Rock Island Grand Prix in previous year's, the First Kart.com race team headed back to the quad cities with three drivers competing in six classes at the '07 edition of the event.
After qualifying third for the headline King of the Streets event, veteran karter Alan Rudolph showed why he is one of the most recognizable people at the Rock Island Grand Prix. Rudolph would line up inside row two and wasted no time moving forward taking the lead on the fourth circuit and eventually outpacing the rest of the 24 kart field to score another King of the Streets title.
"I love coming to this event" claimed Alan Rudolph in the post race interview. "The atmosphere, fans and event are all incredible and I am already looking forward to defending my title in 2008."
Though the victory was sweet, Rudolph did have some trouble in the five minute warm-up on Sunday morning. After the checkered flag, Rudolph involved in an incident after another kart bounced out on the track in front of him. After a very hard that tore the front of the kart apart, the FirstKart.com crew had to make the difficult decision to repair and straighten Rudolph's machine or build a new one and have no track time before one of the biggest races of the year. The decision was made to straighten the existing frame in the three hour time window before the event.
"I have to admit that I was a bit nervous on the opening laps" stated Rudolph. "I was sure how exactly the kart was going to handle as it was a pretty hard shunt we took at the end of the warm-up. I need to say an extra special thanks to Terry and Tony Ventresca and Mike Maurini from First Kart as well as my dad who helped get me back on track."
Rudolph's day was not yet completed as he also entered the TaG and ICC classes. Running later in the day, Rudolph claimed the final podium step in ICC and came home just outside the top ten in TaG.
Also competeing in the King of the Streets and ICC classes was Canadian pilot Josh Adams. In his first trip to the challenging circuit, Adams improved throughout the weekend claiming the 15th spot in the King of the Streets class and a solid ninth in ICC.
FirstKart.com tuner AJ Whisler was another driver behind the wheel of a First Kart at the RIGP as he qualified 20th in the TaG division which was a direct transfer to the final. Advancing forward throughout the feature event, Whisler was running 11th before and incident took him out of the action.
Some of the FirstKart.com race team has little time to rest as they have already traveled to and begun testing at Moran Raceway in Beaumont California. The entire team will be back on track September 14-16 for the final round in the Stars of Karting Presented by IndyCar Series West division.
