Daniel Morad youngest Formula Senior National Champion ever!
ST-ROCH DE L'ACHIGAN Daniel Morad added to his already impressive resume a Canadian National Championship on Sunday at the ASN Canada FIA National Karting Championships held in SRA Karting in St-Roch de L'Achigan, Quebec.
The talented Markham youth steered his firstkart.com Formula Senior First Kart/TM by SRA mount from third on the grid to the lead in short order. "It was important to get to the front so I could control the pace," Morad said.
Even though he was passed twice for the lead, Morad fought right back and retook the lead each time. "At a National race like this, you expect the competition to be tough, and it was. Our firstkart.com team was up for the challenge, and my tuner Paul Lapierre had my First Kart set up perfectly."
Morad caught a break when another competitor dove in on him in the second to last corner. "I saw him at the last second, and we had some side to side contact, but I was able to keep the lead."
The incident gave Morad a bit of a cushion, but on the final lap, again he was challenged for the lead in the same corner, by the same driver. "I was watching behind me," Morad said. "I knew what was coming, and I was ready for it." Again a late braking move was tried, and again it was unsuccessful, but this time Morad was pushed into the dirt on the outside of the track. He skillfully rejoined the track without loosing the lead, and drove to the waiting checkered flag.
"This is a big win for us," Morad said. "Not just for our firstkart.com team, but for my parents, Maple Leaf Mortgages, Static Mountain and all those that have supported us all year."
With the win, Morad is the youngest ever Canadian National Champion in Formula Senior.
