TAYLOR MIINCH CLAIMS A PAIR OF TOP FIVES AT WSK NORTH AMERICAN SERIES BY CKI
"A third and fifth to start off national campaign"
April 13, 2010 -- Championship Karting International (CKI) Florida Cup champion Taylor Miinch had a good start to the WSK North American Series by CKI as the talented Californian claimed two top five results as he works toward the CKI TaG Senior championship. Battling with some of the nation's best, Miinch also battled flu like symptoms all weekend long as he drove to the solid results.
Utilizing a Cory Pollack tuned Top Kart chassis with a P1 Engines prepared Parilla Leopard, Miinch was fast right out of the box during Friday's practice sessions. Circuiting the New Castle Motorsports Park facility near the top of the charts, Miinch and his Miinch Motorsports team were pleased with the start of the weekend and would look to carry that momentum through the two race days.
On Saturday morning, Miinch and his P1 powered Top Kart were fast in the morning warm-up session and were looking to take that speed to the pole position. In the timed session, Miinch would fall just short of the pole position scoring the second quickest lap of the session and an outside front row starting spot. Taking the green flag, Miinch flexed his muscles running with the lead group and taking the lead on occasion but would cross the stripe in the third position. Unable to improve in the main event, Miinch scored a solid third place podium result and a good start to his season.
"Yesterday, I was really sick," expressed Miinch. "The kart was perfect all day but personally, I was off. I think that hurt us today as we didn't have the best test sessions yesterday. We are going to look to change all of this for tomorrow and stand atop the podium."
Sunday morning would provide sunny skies to the racers and senior rookie Taylor Miinch was looking to improve on Saturday's qualifying efforts. Unfortunately, brake problems hindered the performance of his Top Kart and on a fast track like New Castle, brakes are a necessity. At the start of the prefinal, Miinch got a terrific start and quickly jumped into the fourth position but before the first lap was complete disaster would strike. As Miinch looked to make a move for the top three, the chain broke and Miinch was forced to retire from the event and start the main event from the tail of the field.
Starting shotgun on the field, Miinch made quick work of some of his rivals as he moved through the TaG Senior field. Moving into the third position, Miinch made a bid for the second step on the podium on the final lap when contact was made. The pack of drivers battled hard with Miinch coming out on the short end and finished fifth.
Miinch added, "This wasn't our best weekend of racing but we showed that we are fast. I am looking forward to the next WSK event and will look to fight for the win."
