CKI AND GRAND JUNCTION MOTORSPEEDWAY WORK TOGETHER TO CHANGE EVENT DATE OF WSK NORTH AMERICAN SERIES
"Grand Junction Motor Speedway date change to September 24th -- 26th"
Phoenix, AZ - February 8, 2010 -- After a very successful partnership with the WSK program for the 2010 racing season, the WSK North American Series by CKI will kick off their United States campaign in early April. While all the organizations and governing bodies' schedules are all but set in stone, the Championship Karting International (CKI) series along with Grand Junction Motor Speedway has made a change in their program to help benefit the sport of karting and the racers.
"While we had set our schedule mid 2009, the chance of two big races ending up on the same weekend was very likely," stated WSK North American Series by CKI Director of Operations Kevin Williams. "It just so happened that the event at the Grand Junction Motor Speedway in late June fell on the same weekend as the International Karting Federation Grand Nationals and rather then have the karter choose between two big events, we have decided to change our race date to help benefit the sport."
While the original date was scheduled for the June 25 -- 27th weekend, CKI and Grand Junction has pushed their event back until late September over the 24th -- 26th weekend. The event falls on an off weekend in North American karting and will now give the racers and teams the opportunity to attend the event rather than make a decision between two and hinder the sport of karting.
Williams added, "The goal of the CKI program is to help benefit the sport and increase participation on the national level. After hearing the concerns of the racer about two events on the same weekend, we have made the decision to move our race date. While there is a lot of racing going on in the United States, we believe that we have found a suitable date that will benefit the sport."
"Grand Junction Motor Speedway is very excited to be part of such a great series and look forward to having some of the best competitors in the country come and experience our facility," explained Grand Junction Motor Speedway's Stacey Cook. "September in Colorado is an incredible time of the year with this event falling on what we locals call "Color Sunday" which is when all the fall colors are at their peak and the average temperatures around 75 degrees."
Cook also added, "We also feel this is a great opportunity for anyone planning on attending the CKI Grand Championships in Las Vegas to make the trip to Grand Junction then leave their equipment free of charge and fly home. Competitors can then return three weeks later and drive on down to Vegas which is only a short seven hour trek. We have 24 hour security and assure everyone that your vehicles and equipment will be safe and secure. We thank CKI for this incredible opportunity and will do everything possible to make sure all competitors enjoy their visit."
