RAQUEL MARTINEZ WSK NORTH AMERICA PHOENIX REPORT
"Martinez sweeps KF3"
Whittier, CA (May 19, 2010) - It may still be spring, but it sure felt like summer for round two of the WSK North America Series held at the PKRA facility in Phoenix, Arizona. With temperatures in the high 90's the drivers and equipment were be tested and pushed to the max.
Friday was the coolest day of the weekend and Raquel showed speed in both TaG Jr. and KF3. First up Saturday was KF3 and Raquel grabbed pole position in convincing fashion. After winning the prefinal Raquel went on to win final taking home her first win of the season. In TaG Jr. Raquel qualified in 5th position and went on to finish fourth in the prefinal. In the final she battled hard falling back to 6th at one point in the race, but was able to advance back to the 4th position by the checkered flag.
Once again on Sunday Raquel qualified on pole in KF3, but the prefinal was different. Raquel led early but a couple of mistakes cost her first position crossing the line in 2nd. At the start of the final Raquel fell to 4th but slowly and methodically worked her way back up to lead where should never looked back taking her second win of the weekend and the overall champion. With the sweep of the weekend she took over the points lead. TaG Jr. started off great as well with a 3rd place qualifying effort. In the prefinal Raquel took the lead early on, but fell to 7th on the final lap from 5th. The final did not get off to a great start with Raquel being forced wide in turn two and falling back outside of the top ten. As the kart came in she made her way to the front setting fast time multiple times throughout the race ending up in 5th position.
"This was an amazing weekend an," stated Martinez. "I can't thank Corey Pollock and Chris Wehrheim enough for giving me one of the best karts I have ever driven all weekend. My Vortex from Reaction Karting and Swedetech was a missile all weekend and could pass at will down the straights. I am looking forward to racing KF3 in Portugal next!"
