RAQUEL MARTINEZ WSK NORTH AMERICA REPORT
"Martinez scores three top five finishes"
Whittier, CA (April 19, 2010) -Two weeks after a successful end to the Gatorz Championship, Raquel Martinez and Martinez Racing headed east for the first time in 2010 for the opening round of the WSK North America series at New Castle Motorsports Park. Raquel returned to compete in TaG Jr. and made her debut in KF3 preparing for her European debut.
Saturday started off just as 2009 ended with Raquel at the front of the grid. Raquel qualified in the 3rd position in TaG Jr. KF3 did not go as well with Raquel having mechanical issues winding up 8th. In the TaG prefinal Raquel battled in the lead group eventually holding onto 3rd. The KF3 prefinal showed much better for her racing up to the second position. After making changes for the TaG final, Raquel moved her Top Kart Flash into the lead at the halfway mark. One lap later she was forced off the track and fell to 6th eventually working her way back to the 4th position. Raquel's KF3 debut continued to be a success with her finishing 2nd.
Sunday was full of its ups and downs for Raquel. In TaG Jr. qualifying she fell into 12th position after the kart experienced carburetor issues, but qualified in 4th during the KF3 session. Raquel came back in the TaG prefinal with her kart issues fixed and finished in 3rd position. She then went on to acquire a 3rd place position for the KF3 prefinal as well. Raquel secured a 3rd place finish in the TaG final after successfully leading the most laps. She had a great run in the KF3 final and was in 2nd position coming into the final turn however an incident occurred on the track hindering her from finishing the race.
"This was a great start to my championship campaign in TaG Jr.," stated Martinez. "We learned a lot as a team this weekend in the KF3 and I am looking forward to challenging for the win in both categories in Phoenix."
Next up for the team is the opening round of the Rotax PanAm series at MSR Houston.
