ELF Renault Clio Cup rookie Daniel Lloyd teamed up with reigning Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton yesterday, Wednesday, 18th February, for the launch of the 2009 Formula Kart Stars and CIK-FIA Stars International Karting Championships -- formerly known as the BRDC Stars of Tomorrow.
The Scammonden-based teenager, a former BRDC Scholarship Winner, was invited along to the event at PF International Circuit, Grantham, where Vodafone McLaren Mercedes ace Hamilton -- a fellow former Stars competitor -- was the guest of honour.
Daniel, who this year graduates to the British Touring Car Championship-supporting ELF Renault Clio Cup for his second season of car racing action, thoroughly enjoyed the day and relished the opportunity to meet Britain's latest F1 World Champion.
"It was a pleasure to be involved with the launch of the Formula Kart Stars Championships and to have the chance to meet and chat with Lewis", commented Daniel, "I really enjoyed myself. Lewis is an inspiration and is very genuine. The only disappointment for me was that his girlfriend wasn't there!
"I'd like to express my thanks to Carolynn Hoy for inviting me along, it was a great privilege to be involved in the Formula Kart Stars launch. Winning the old BRDC scholarship enabled me to make the step-up to car racing in 2008 in the Ginetta Junior Championship so it proves how important the Stars championships can be for a young driver's career."
Daniel actually made his active karting return a few weeks ago at the PFI track when he seized the opportunity to enjoy a test outing in current machinery. Taking part in the run in order to 'stay sharp' ahead of pre-season ELF Renault Clio Cup testing, the teenage sensation stunned the British championship regulars by lapping fastest of all on the day.
The West Yorkshire youngster's Clio Cup test programme is scheduled to get underway tomorrow, Friday, 20th February, at Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire while the season itself will begin on 4th/5th April at Brands Hatch in Kent.
