Indy racing drivers testing IROC cars at IMS July 30-Aug. 1, preparing for 2002 "IROC at Indy".
Indy Racing League drivers Buddy Lazier and Scott Sharp will make the most of testing opportunities in the True Value International Race of Champions Series' stock cars at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway from July 30-Aug. 1, in preparation for the Aug. 3 "IROC at Indy," the final race of the season for IROC.
Testing is scheduled for each day from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. (EST), with a one-hour lunch break from noon-1 p.m. Media are welcome to interview the drivers in the garage area during that time.
Lazier, the 2000 Indy Racing League champion and 1996 Indianapolis 500-Mile Race winner, will test Tuesday-Thursday, and Sharp, the 1996 IRL co-champion, will test Tuesday and Wednesday.
Fellow 2002 True Value IROC drivers Sam Hornish Jr., Kevin Harvick and Tony Stewart are tentatively scheduled to test Thursday. Drivers Helio Castroneves, Dale Jarrett, Bobby Labonte, Sterling Marlin and Jack Sprague are not expected to test until Friday, which is the first "official" day of the Brickyard 400 weekend.
NASCAR Winston Cup Series driver Ken Schrader, who is driving in place of the injured Danny Lasoski for IROC at Indy, will test Friday as well.
Testing through Thursday is considered private; however, the public is welcome to view testing from the south terrace grandstands, located in the infield directly in front of the Hall of Fame Museum, free of charge.
General admission tickets are available for Friday's Brickyard 400 practice day, which includes three True Value IROC practice sessions and a two-hour NASCAR Winston Cup Series practice from 2-4 p.m. (EST). Tickets are $10, and children ages 5 and younger are admitted free.
On Saturday, Aug. 3, "H.H. Gregg/Sirius Qualifying Day" includes NASCAR Winston Cup Series qualifying at 10:05 a.m., followed by the 40-lap IROC at Indy race at 1 p.m. Two NASCAR practices will follow to conclude a busy day of activites. Tickets are $25, and children ages 5 and younger will be admitted free.
