Tinton Falls, NJ - ABC Sports will televise the 2000 season opener True Value IROC series race at Daytona this Sunday, March 12, at 5:00 p.m. (Eastern Time) immediately following the NASCAR Winston Cup Race coverage from Atlanta Motorspeedway.
Bob Jenkins serves as host with expert commentary by Benny Parsons, a former IROC winner, along with Dr. Jerry Punch reporting from the pits.
New on the broadcast team in 2000 is Ray Evernham, who will contribute expert commentary with an insider's perspective. Evernham spent his formative years in auto racing as a member of the IROC crew from 1984 through 1989 under the tutelage of IROC President, Jay Signore.
"It's a neat deal having Ray do the show after all the years he spent at IROC. We're very proud of all he has accomplished and his unique insights will add a new dimension to the broadcast," said Signore.
This is the 20th appearance for IROC at the famous 2.5 mile, high-banked oval. Providing in-car camera shots will be Defending True Value IROC Champion Dale Earnhardt, three-time NASCAR Winston Cup Champion Jeff Gordon, Indy Racing League Champion Greg Ray, former Indy Racing League Champion and NASCAR Winston Cup Rookie of the Year Tony Stewart, Indy 500 winner Eddie Cheever, Jr., and NASCAR Busch Grand National Champion Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
The remainder of the 2000 True Value IROC drivers are Mark Dismore/Indy Racing League, NASCAR Winston Cup Champion Dale Jarrett, four-time IROC Champion Mark Martin and fellow NASCAR Winston Cup drivers Bobby Labonte, Rusty Wallace and Jeff Burton.
