Joliet, Ill. - The starting lineups are set for this weekend's racing action at Chicagoland Speedway. Ryan Newman took the pole position for Sunday's NASCAR Winston Cup Tropicana 400 with a speed of 183.051 seconds. He orbited the 1.5 mile track in 29.500 second his #12 ALLTEL/Mobil 1 Ford.
Todd Bodine clinched the NASCAR Busch Series pole turning in a best speed of 178.772 mph in the #92 Excedrin Chevrolet and will lead the Busch drivers in Saturday's Tropicana Twister 300 presented by Sam's Club. The Indy Racing League's Buddy Lazier paces the twelve world-class drivers running in Saturday's 100-mile True Value International Race of Champions Series.
The IROC race will feature participants from the NASCAR Craftsmen Truck Series and the World of Outlaws, in addition to drivers from the IRL and NASCAR's Winston Cup and Busch Series.
This weekend marks the opening of Chicagoland Speedway's second season. Kevin Harvick, the 2001 Raybestos Rookie Champion won the inaugural Cup event here last July over Robert Pressley. Current Winston Cup Raybestos Rookie points leader Jimmie Johnson took home the checkered flag in last July's Busch race, finishing a cool 4.932 seconds over Mike Skinner, the next-closest finisher. This weekend is the first time that the IROC series will race at Chicagoland.
The green flag flies for the IROC race at 12:45 p.m. Saturday before the Tropicana Twister 300 kicks off at 2:30 p.m. for the Busch drivers. JoDee Messina will entertain the Chicagoland guests in a special one-hour concert performance and will also sing the National Anthem before the headlining Winston Cup Tropicana 400 commences at 1:30 Sunday afternoon.
