USAC star Chad Boat to race in Indy Lights
Belardi Auto Racing, which won the 2014 Indy Lights title with Gabby Chaves, has revealed that USAC sprint car and midget star Chad Boat will race for the team in Iowa and Gateway.
Boat, son of IRL Indy car star Billy Boat, will make his Lights series debut in the #84 Dallara IL15 Mazda next week at Iowa Speedway, and then again at Gateway Motorsports Park in late August. Pristine Auction, the premier autographed sports memorabilia auction house in the US, will serve as the primary sponsor for both events.
“We’re extremely pleased to announce the addition of Chad to our stable of drivers,” said team owner Brian Belardi. “It’s exciting to have a second-generation driver running with us, and we’re certainly looking forward to getting Chad on track in Iowa.”
Boat, 25, earned the Rookie of the Year title in both the USAC National Midget and Sprint car divisions, and has raced at Iowa before in NASCAR Xfinity Series. He will make his Lights debut on the 0.894-mile oval tonight.
“I grew up watching my dad race Indy cars, so having the opportunity to run Indy Lights this year is absolutely surreal,” said Boat. “I have to thank Belardi Auto Racing for giving me a shot behind the wheel of the No. 84 Dallara, as well as Pristine Auction for their continued support in my racing career.”
