TEAM KOOL GREEN'S NAOKI HATTORI TESTS AT NAZARETH

INDIANAPOLIS - TEAM KOOL Green completed nearly 400 miles of testing at Nazareth Speedway last week in preparation for Round Three of the 1998 Dayton-PPG Indy Lights Championship, April 24-26. Driver Naoki Hattori clocked a best time of 22.6 seconds during the test, which compares favorably to his lap of 23.441 seconds in qualifying for last year's Nazareth Indy Lights race. Hattori logged 180 laps in the KOOL Lola-Buick on Friday, and turned a best lap of 23.14 seconds which was about one half second slower than the fastest times of the day. Hattori's effort was initially hampered by an oversteer problem; later, he flat-spotted his tires avoiding a crash involving Brazil's Felipe Giaffone. Overnight chassis adjustments by the Team KOOL Green crew resulted in improved handling on Saturday. Hattori ran a total of 190 laps with a quickest time of 22.6 seconds, or about a half second faster than his Friday best. "Nazareth is a very difficult oval," said Hattori, who enjoyed the best finish of his Indy Lights career with a third place at Long Beach on April 4. "It is very important to have experience at Nazareth and this test gave me almost 400 more laps at the track." "This was a good test for Naoki and for the crew," said team manager Lou Schollum. "We learned quite a bit about what Naoki likes in a car at Nazareth. We developed a good race set-up and came away with a little margin in hand for qualifying." Team KOOL Green is the defending pole winner at Nazareth. Chris Simmons earned the first pole of his Indy Lights career on the Pennsylvania oval last year and went on to finish second in the race.
