Andretti Autosport’s Dean Stoneman, currently second in the Indy Lights championship, emerged quickest from the two Friday practice sessions at Iowa Speedway.

Lapping the 0.894-mile course in 19.7097sec, he clocked an average of 163.290mph in the early afternoon session which held as fastest of the day, ahead of Team Pelfrey’s Juan Piedrahita whose best also came in the first session.

Points leader Ed Jones put Carlin Racing top in the second session and third overall, with Schmidt Peterson Motorsports’ Santiago Urrutia fourth.

Zachary Claman De Melo was fastest Juncos Racing entry in fifth, with Zach Veach fifth as the American spends a second consecutive race flying solo for Belardi Auto Racing. Felix Rosenqvist is expected to return for Toronto next week.

Felix Serralles was seventh in the second Carlin car, while Kyle Kaiser was eighth but made contact with the wall at Turn 4 in the closing minutes of the session.

Qualifying for Indy Lights begins at 11.00am local (Central) time with the race following at 2.15pm.
