1998 and '99 Barber Dodge Pro Series runner-up Todd Snyder has recently taken part in some very encouraging tests with Indy Lights teams Brian Stewart Racing and Conquest Racing at a new facility at Spring Mountain Raceway in Las Vegas.

Snyder, who is third on both the Barber Pro Series all-time points list and career wins list with seven victories (tied with Robbie Buhl and Jeremy Dale), tested one day with each of the teams at the Nevada venue. After two full seasons of racing in the ultra-competitive Barber Dodge Pro Series, Snyder is poised to make a run at the Dayton Indy Lights Championship, and is a logical progression for the 30-year-old from Sheffield, Mass. In both of those Barber Dodge Pro Series seasons Snyder forced the title fight with Jeff Simmons all the way to the final round.

The first day was spent with Eric Bachelart's Conquest Racing squad most of which concentrated on the set-up of the 425 horsepower Lola chassis. Although times around this relatively unknown circuit are not useful from a comparative stand-point, Snyder's laps did impress Bachelart, himself the '91 Indy Lights champ.

Day two was over at Brian Stewart Racing where Snyder was able to post equally impressive lap times.

"The tests went very well," according to Snyder. "The cars were fun to drive and aside from the added horsepower and shorter braking distances, were very similar to the Pro Series cars. That allowed me to jump right in and be comfortable straight away."

The next few weeks may bring about tests with other top Indy Lights teams, and Snyder who has backing from outpost.com is keeping his options open. Needless to say however, he was very pleased with what he saw from both teams, and is very enthusiastic about the possibilities.

"I was very impressed with the professionalism and appearance of Conquest Racing as well as that of Brian Stewart Racing," Snyder added.
