Former European Formula 3 star Felix Rosenqvist turned in the fastest lap in the dying seconds of the first Indy Lights practice at St. Petersburg.
Belardi Auto Racing's new star lapped the 1.8-mile track in 1min07.189sec, an average speed of 96.444mph to edge Scott Hargrove into second by 0.1195sec. Hargrove, who is so far guaranteed only this St. Petersburg race, has thus put Team Pelfrey right in the mix on the team’s debut at this level.
Andretti Autosport’s signing Dean Stoneman was P3, just a few hundredths behind Hargrove with Carlin Racing’s sophomore Ed Jones in fourth. Carlin’s other two drivers were less fortunate, with Felix Serralles stopping on track mid-session, and ending up twelfth, and Neil Alberico only 16th.
Zach Veach was fifth to put two Belardi cars in the top five, while Zachary Clemen DeMelo was sixth in the first of defending champions Juncos Racing’s entries. Schmidt Peterson Motorsport’s top runner was RC Enerson in seventh.
Practice 2 starts at 2.10pm ET.
