Luis Diaz (TelMex/Roquin Motorsport/Canel's/Ericsson/Akron) A well deserved 3rd place given to Luis Diaz for his first podium finish! Qualifying fourth yesterday, Diaz started on the 2nd line on the grid this afternoon.
In the first lap of the race, Diaz passes Mario Dominguez #17 del Valle/Corona/Televisa/PacWest Lights for the third position. Dominguez then reclaims third position with an aggressive move in turn 11, which caused Diaz to fall back to six place. But Diaz comes back in only 4 short laps and blows by 2 positions to recover fourth position. The battle begins between Damien Faulkner #31 Dorricott Racing and Diaz. Diaz hot on his tail makes a miraculous move and passes Faulkner in turn 2. He secures his third position with the fastest lap time of 1:17.888 on his 15th lap.
Brian Jones, Engineer, said, "As far as lap time goes we had been competitive all year. It is unfortunate that we ran into problems such as, mechanical failures, racing accidents and just plain bad luck, because I feel we could've had many more victories. We have worked hard all year and it has finally paid off!"
"I feel great! I had a wonderful feeling that something was going to happen here at the Laguna Seca Raceway this weekend! We have worked so hard all year and we have finally got it! I have a great crew and an excellent car and I wouldn't have been able to do it without them," said Luis Diaz. "Hopefully this luck sticks with us until the last race in Fontana!"
Rolando Quintanilla (TelMex/Roquin Motorsport/Canel's/Ericsson/Akron) Rolando Quintanilla faced several battles during this afternoon's race at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. He was able to gain 2 positions and he placed in 8th in the 11th round of the Dayton Indy Championship
"I drove very hard and did the best I could. I battled with Halliday for most of the race and I constantly looked for any mistakes to pass, but was not able to find any!" said Rolando Quintanilla. "I had a good car and I am looking forward to the Fontana race."
