Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course Up Next for Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (August 4, 2010) -- Round 9 of Firestone Indy Lights brings Gustavo Yacaman and the No. 10 Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing team to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, a natural road-course, that sits just outside Mansfield, Ohio, a city that is referred to as the "Racing Capital of Ohio."
The 2.4-mile, 15-turn course is a beautiful track, but contains few places to pass. Strategy is key, and Yacaman and the team are ready for the challenge.
"Last year I wasn't stellar at Mid-Ohio, but neither was I at Toronto in 2009 but I had my best finish so far this year there," Yacaman said. "I am sure this year we can keep fighting for podium finishes as long as we qualify well. It's a really hard track to pass, so qualifying is going to be really important."
In preparation for the Mid-Ohio event, Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing tested at Putnam Park, 35 miles outside of Indianapolis. The team is hopeful the extra practice time will translate into positive results at Mid-Ohio.
"The test went smoothly," the young Colombian driver said. "We tried different things that were pretty positive. I learned a lot from the car."
Yacaman also recently completed his second triathlon, the Indy Tri, on Sunday, August 1st. He finished the 500 meter swim, 20K bike ride and 5K run in just over one hour and 18 minutes. He finished fifth in his division and 155th overall (out of 521).
"I improved my time by 18 minutes over the last one a month ago, so I am happy with the results. I have to keep working on my physical capabilities to try to become better in and out of the car."
