Tony Renna scored his best result to date in the 2000 CART Dayton Indy Lights Series with a third-place finish in the Detroit News 100 at Michigan Speedway in Brooklyn, Mich. Renna led the way for the Barber Dodge contingent who filled half of the Top-10.

Following Renna were Lights rookies Townsend Bell and Todd Snyder in fourth and fifth places. The Boss brothers both made it into the Top-10 with Geoff coming home sixth and Andy ending the race in ninth.

All of the drivers were involved in a gargantuan battle that saw them swap places with amazing regularity. At with less than a quarter of the distance remaining, the first 11 runners were circulating around the 2-mile high banked oval within one second of another.

In the overall classification, Bell improves his situation to within striking distance of the lead having only 13 points to make up as the season nears its mid point. He resides in fifth while Jeff Simmons resides in seventh followed by Chris Menninga in ninth and Renna in tenth.
