Herdez-backed driver Mario Dominguez took the 7th spot in the provisional qualifying session for Sunday's Grand Prix of Long Beach. Dominguez was the best Mexican driver in the timed session with a 1'17.440 lap, after recovering from 14th position in the morning's practice, where his best time was 1'19.066.

Mario Dominguez, Car #7, Herdez/Quaker State Team: "In the morning we had a lot of troubles. The car was very bouncy, jumps a lot and the brakes weren't good, but I am very happy with my New Mexican engineer. I like the way we've been working together; he set up the car very well for qualifying. He is very committed and my mechanics are putting 110% on the work. There are still a lot of things to do, but for tomorrow we will be ok."
