INDIANAPOLIS -- Team KOOL Green and driver Jonny Kane travelled to Nazareth Speedway April 23-24 for two days of testing in preparation for Round Three of the PPG-Dayton Indy Lights Championship. Although inclement weather interrupted proceedings on Thursday, Kane completed more than 300 trouble-free miles during the two days and lapped within 1/10 of a second of the fastest times of the test.
"It was a very good test," said Kane. "We began with a pretty standard set-up on Friday and got down to a lap of 23.5 seconds pretty quickly but, unfortunately, it began to rain and we only got to run about 75 laps."
Saturday, Kane ran 230 laps in the KOOL Lola-Buick with a fast time of 22.6 seconds, third best among the 18 Indy Lights drivers present for the test.
"The second day went really well," said Kane. "Initially we were stuck at about the same speed we'd run on Friday, but we made some tweaks to the set-up and then made a pretty good jump in times.
"I'm still learning about these cars on the ovals, but I'm beginning to get a good feel for how different changes to the set-up affect the car's performance. The car felt very good and I think there was a little more time left in me, so to be within a tenth of a second of the best time was pretty encouraging."
"We made really good progress over the two days," said Lou Schollum, manager of Team KOOL Green's Indy Lights team. "Nazareth can be intimidating, but Jonny was right at home. We made good gains in the chassis set-up over the course of the two days and I think we'll have a good starting point for the race."
Following the test, Team KOOL Green returned to Indianapolis in order to complete preparations for the Nazareth race this coming weekend.
