Laguna Seca, Ca. (Sept. 9th, 2000) Team KOOL Green driver Jonny Kane qualified seventh today for tomorrow's Dayton Indy Lights race at the Laguna Seca Raceway in California.
Kane struggled yesterday with major under steer only to develop both over steer and under steer in today's session. Kane is hopeful that overnight changes will show some improvement for tomorrow's pre-race warm up.
Casey Mears took the pole with a quick lap of 1:15.891 seconds. Scott Dixon will line up second (1:15.949 seconds), Jeff Simmons third (1:16.118 seconds) and Tony Renna fourth (1:16.469 seconds). Kane qualified seventh on a time of 1:16.606 seconds.
JONNY KANE, #27 TEAM KOOL GREEN
"We have had big under steer everywhere since we got here. We changed the car a great deal for today. Now we have over steer as well. The car isn't doing anything I want it to do. Jeff's car is obviously working a lot better than ours. We arrived with very similar set ups but we have had under steer since. I didn't think small things were going to help us so we went quite drastic. Unfortunately that hasn't helped us much either. We will have to have another rethink and see what we can come up with for tomorrow's warm up.
The car has been quick on every road and street course we've been to this year and we were quite good at the test here. There was no sign of this diabolical car we have at the moment. It is a bit baffling that we turn up and have this problem that we haven't had before. It is the worst qualifying that I've had all year on the roads and streets but we had a good race here last year so we'll keep trying."
