CASTRONEVES LEADS OPENING DAY OF PRACTICE AT WATKINS GLEN
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y., Friday, Sept. 23, 2005 -- Wade Cunningham led preparations for the Menards Infiniti Pro Series Corning 100 with a lap of 1:40.0505, 121.259 mph in his No. 33 Motorsport New Zealand Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone.
CORNING 100 POST-PRACTICE QUOTES
WADE CUNNINGHAM (No. 33 Motorsport New Zealand Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone, fastest in practice): "I think it was difficult going from learning the track in the rain then you have to go back out on a dry track. It's easier to adapt the other way. To get quicker each time is a mental challenge. That's why it took me a while to bring my speed up in the dry practice this afternoon. I'm pretty happy. The track is very fast. You've got the steel barriers on both sides. It's a fast track with a lot of consequence if you get it wrong, so I was just trying to stay within my limits today and see what I had. I was pushing myself a little bit more each lap. I was just trying to find the right gears to run. The last lap was the best, which it probably should have been."
JEFF SIMMONS (No. 24 Team ISI Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone, second quickest in practice): "We're trying to find the right gearing because of the wind we have. We had trouble finding a clean lap. We only got one really clean lap the whole time. The car is not bad and I'm getting the feel for the track again. The setup is not bad right now. The car wasn't where we needed it when we started. We were way too low; I was pounding the ground and we had to raise it up a bunch. Now the car is not bad. There are still a lot of things we are going to have to go talk about, corner by corner and try to figure out what changes we can make."
MARCO ANDRETTI (No. 26 Vonage Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone, third quickest in practice): "This practice was definitely better than the first session. We made a lot of gains. We made just little adjustments. It was different because it was dry. We've got a lot of work to do. We have two seconds that we need to find. This track is awesome. Its going to be fun once we get it working."
