SEAN GUTHRIE RACING UPDATE
#4 Guthrie Racing Car Crafters Special / Dallara / Firestone Qualified: 18th Finished: 16th (ran as high as 10th in race -- fell back due to a last-lap incident) Guthrie 2007 Indy Pro Series Point Standings after Race #1 in St. Petersburg: 16th
GUTHRIE POST-RACE QUOTE:
"Our day didn't go that well. The first session I qualified 10th, which was pretty good. We have to pit near the back of pit lane due to our points situation, so we're always behind everyone else getting onto the track. I just couldn't get a clean lap because of that during the second qualifying session, so we ended up starting the race 17th. The race started slow for us, but we ended up picking up positions because people made mistakes or crashed ahead of us. My car was actually fairly good -- I think I was actually up to 9th or 10th at one point. During the last lap, I tried to make too much happen and tried to outbrake another car and just spun. I'm looking forward to getting another shot at this track tomorrow, because I think I really learned a lot during the race today. Hopefully we'll have better luck."
TOM WIERINGA RACING UPDATE
#40 Racing For Kids Guthrie Racing Special / Dallara / Firestone Qualified: 23rd -- accident (see media note below) Finished: 20TH (fell out of race due to handling issues) Wieringa 2007 Indy Pro Series Point Standings after Race #1 in St. Petersburg: 18th
WIERINGA POST-RACE QUOTE:
"The team did a fantastic job repairing my car after this morning's accident, but the brakes weren't right at all and I was really having a hard time keeping it on track, so I thought it would be better to pull in rather than to chance staying out there with a mishandling car. I can't tell you how grateful I am for the support I am getting from the whole Guthrie Racing team. They are they hardest working group of guys I've ever been around. It's been such a pleasure to have them behind my racing effort. The good news is that they got my car back together and we did get to start the race. We'll take a look at what we did during the laps we ran and get ready for tomorrow's event."
