RLR/Andersen Racing Gets First Indy Pro Series Podium Finish When Prendeville Places Third Sunday at Infineon
SONOMA, Calif., Aug. 26 - RLR/Andersen Racing achieved its first podium finish in Indy Pro Series competition when Andrew Prendeville of Morristown, N.J., finished third in the Valley of the Moon 100 at Infineon Raceway Sunday.
Prendeville finished seventh in yesterday's Indy Pro Series race here, and started second in Sunday's 30-lap event on the 2.3-mile road course with his Best Friends Animal Society No. 5 fielded by the Fairfield, N.J.-based team.
Sunday's race went non-stop. Prendeville trailed polesitter Ryan Justice by about four-tenths of a second for the first 13 laps.
Eventual winner Richard Antinucci muscled by Prendeville for second on lap 14 in Turn 11. Contact occurred but Prendeville kept control of his Best Friends Animal Society No. 5 and remained in third place the rest of the way.
Antinucci passed Justice for the lead on lap 19 in Turn 11 and had a 1.7400-seconds margin of victory over Justice at the checkered. Prendeville was 0.5303 of a second behind Justice at the end.
Prendeville got close to Justice several times. He set his fastest lap of the race, a 1:23.8666 for an average speed of 98.728 miles per hour, on lap 18, which was the fourth-fastest lap of the race.
The top five finishers are all Indy Pro Series rookies. Logan Gomez and Stephen Simpson rounded out the top five.
J.R. Hildebrand of Sausalito, Calif., started 21st in the other RLR/Andersen Racing entry but retired his Formotion Products No. 15 on lap seven due to an injury he sustained to his left wrist in an accident on lap two of yesterday's race. He was 17th when he entered pit road on Sunday, and his official finishing position Sunday was 20th.
Highlights from the Infineon doubleheader will be shown on ESPN2 at 5:30 p.m. Eastern time on Friday, Aug. 31. Live timing and scoring was available on indycar.com/pro.
Only the season finale remains. It will be held Sept. 9 at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Ill.
Prendeville came into the weekend 13th in the driver standings. He leaves the Sonoma Valley in 11th place in the point standings, only five points out of tenth, which is currently held by Chris Festa.
