RLR/Andersen Racing's Prendeville Qualifies Seventh, Scarallo 11th at Kentucky
SPARTA, Ky., Aug. 10 - RLR/Andersen Racing's Andrew Prendeville and Joey Scarallo were both just five-tenths of a second off Hideki Mutoh's new track record in Indy Pro Series qualifying Friday at Kentucky Speedway despite never having seen the track before this weekend.
Prendeville, of Morristown, N.J., qualified seventh in the 20-car field with his Best Friends Animal Society No. 5 with a time of 28.4089 (187.547 miles per hour). Scarallo, of Smithtown, N.Y., ended up 11th on the starting grid with his GroupAWheels.com No. 15 with a qualifying time of 28.4489 (187.283 mph) for the 1.5-mile trioval.
Both have inside starting spots for tomorrow night's race, the series' first under the lights. Prendeville will share Row 4 with Sean Guthrie. Scarallo will share Row 6 with Stephen Simpson. The race is slated to begin at 9:10 p.m., right after the IndyCar race. The distance is 67 laps.
Qualifying was held under hot and humid conditions. It should be cooler for the race, which starts four hours later tomorrow night. That will make it better for the drivers, the fans and the cars.
Andrew Prendeville: "Qualifying went well. I'm happy. It equals our best qualifying result on ovals.
"We have a good car for the race tomorrow night. The RLR/Andersen guys did an awesome job getting the car ready, and the new red-and-white paint scheme looks great.
"I think it's an advantage to start on the inside. We'll just try our best to be there at the finish for the Racing Laps for Best Friends program."
Joey Scarallo: "We ended up 11th. We were up even higher for awhile. We're only four one-hundreds of a second off sixth place, so it's very tight.
"Overall I'm pleased. I like the bigger ovals. We've been doing well on the ovals this year."
