FESTA 11th AND 14th IN LIBERTY CHALLENGE RACE ON THE ROAD COURSE AT INDIANAPOLIS
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Sunday, June 17, 2007)- Target Chip Ganassi Racing's Indy Pro Series driver Chris Festa ran two Indy Pro Series races this weekend on the 2.605-mile, 13-turn road course at Indianapolis Motor Speedway as a support event at the United States Grand Prix Formula One race.
In race no.1 of the Liberty Challenge, Festa, from a 15th place starting position on the grid, battled an ill handling car but improved his position a few spots to finish 11th.
The second 18-lap race took place on early Sunday, as the Festa started from 11th spot on the grid with a much improved No.9 CareCentric Target car, but made a few costly mistakes in his exuberance to post a strong finish. A spin in the final laps dropped him to a 14th place finish in race no.2 of the Liberty Challenge.
Festa and the CareCentric Target team are still chasing a win this season but are fifth in the Indy Pro Series Championship standings with 167 points. Alex Lloyd is the leader with 340 points, thanks to a record five race winning streak, while rookie Hideki Mutoh is in second spot with his first win this weekend in race no.1 of the Liberty Challenge and 236 points.
The Liberty Challenge Indy Pro Series races will be telecast by ESPN2 at 5 p.m. on June 21. The sixth season of Indy Pro Series competition continues with the Iowa 100 on June 23 at Iowa Speedway.
CARECENTRIC TARGET CHIP GANASSI RACING POST-RACE QUOTEBOARD:
Chris Festa: "The car was a lot better. I just kept making mistakes, and the 44 car kept blocking me, which was pretty bad. He was running me into the inside wall, so I am a little angry at him. I just made a couple mistakes. I made one on the start, and then I spun it on myself going into (Turn) 4. But the car was a ton better, we were turning pretty good lap times, so we are happier for that aspect. I am just really disappointed in myself."
