Yacamán, Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing Finishes 11th at Iowa Speedway
NEWTON, Iowa (June 20, 2010) -- No. 10 Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing driver Gustavo Yacamán finished 11th in the AvoidtheStork.com 100, Round 5 of Firestone Indy Lights at Iowa Speedway.
The Friday evening practice session was cancelled due to weather issues, which meant it was a busy day for Yacamán and the Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing team as an extra practice session was added on Saturday that was already filled with practice, qualifying and the 115-lap race.
The young Colombian driver qualified sixth earlier in the day on the 0.894-mile track, his best position of the season. With the "Stork" waving the green flag, Yacamán took to the track in front of a healthy crowd and with the sun going down.
The No. 26 of Charlie Kimball made contact with the wall on Turn 2 on the first lap and brought out the early caution. Yacamán picked up a spot before the caution flag waved and restarted in fifth on Lap 11.
Debris brought out the yellow flag again on Lap 66 and bunched the cars back together. After a quick clean up by the Holmatro Safety team, he restarted seventh. Yacamán had a great restart and picked up a spot, but he made light contact with the wall on Lap 88. He was able to avoid major contact with the other race cars on track, but unfortunately it ended his night early.
"It's disappointing," Yacamán said. "The guys put together a good car, and we were on our way to a solid top-10 finish. I was able to avoid major contact, but it was enough to end our day with 20 laps left. This is racing, and we make mistakes. But the key is to learn from them. My guys did a great job, and I want to thank them for their hard work. We will move on from this and focus on our next race."
Next up for Yacamán and Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing is Round 6 at Watkins Glen International road course in upstate New York.
