Gateway Practice Will Take a Rain Check

Mexican driver Mario Domínguez and the rest of the drivers of the Dayton Indy Lights series couldn't practice today at the oval of the Gateway International Speedway in Madison, Illinois, due to the rain showers which appeared at the end of the first practice of the Indy Racing League cars. Rain didn't stop long enough for the track to dry and the worst part is that there's more coming according to the local weathermen.

Mario said that "if this keeps up, it will hurt us because we would be starting according to the series' standings, although I would line up fourth in the grid because Kristian Kolby (fourth in the standings) will not race. It is a pity because the team is ready, I am ready and willing and we know we have a good car but we have to get some laps to finish the set up. I hope the water goes away. Tomorrow we'll have three sessions. The first is at 8.45 a.m., then we have one around 1 p.m. and the last is at 3 in the afternoon".

Mario is the driver of car #17 Del Valle-Corona-Akron-Televisa, belonging to the PacWest Lights team, current Indy Lights champions. The mexican driver is fifth in the 2001 standings, just 4 points away from third, and he will go out saturday looking for his third pole of the season, having scored the previous ones at the Kansas oval and the Long Beach street circuit.
