After an accident during qualifying on Saturday and failing to set time for a grid position, Herdez/Pegaso-backed driver Mario Domínguez had to start from the back of the field. Still managed to come home in the 11th place in the Dayton Indy Lights support race of the Target Grand Prix Presented by Energizer, held at the 1-mile Chicago Motor Speedway-oval.

Mario Domínguez, Car #7, Herdez/Pegaso Team: "We went out just to finish. I had high hopes to achieve a better result, but I had no luck in qualifying and starting from the back hurt us. During the warm-up my car was oversteering and we made an adjustment for the race to try to fix this problem. That's why during the first fifty laps we had no grip at the front of the car, but it was better towards the end. Unfortunately, it was too late, because I was already lapped."

Ramiro Fidalgo, engineer for the Herdez/Pegaso Team: "After yesterday's accident we had to rebuilt the car. It was damaged mainly on the left side and the gearbox and we could not set up the car in the way we wanted. We made the decision to have a reliable car for the race and we made just one change at the end of the warm-up for the race. Towards the end of the race the other cars had lot of oversteer and we had a better car, it was more balanced."
