Forsythe Championship Racing, Ltd. 1999 PPG-Dayton Indy Lights Championship

Tenneco Automotive Grand Prix of Detroit The Raceway on Belle Isle - Detroit, Michigan August 6-8, 1999

Circuit: 2.346-mile temporary street course Race: 32 laps/75.072 miles Broadcast: Sunday, August 8 - ESPN2 - 9:00 pm - 10:00 pm EST

Airton Dare, #1 Banestado Lola - Qualified 12th:

"To go from pole last year to starting 12th is not what we expected this weekend. Our biggest problem is power oversteer right now. Hopefully we can make a few more changes and be there in the race. This is one of my favorite tracks, and I want to do a good job tomorrow."

Guy Smith, #6 Swift Caravans Lola - Qualified 3rd:

"It was an uphill battle, but I think we made a lot of gains this weekend. I am running a setup more like Tony Kanaan ran which is better suited to my driving style. The car was working pretty good and I was reasonably confident when we put on new tires. I thought there was more to come, but we ran out of time. Obviously the pole would have been great but after watching the start last year, third -- on the inside-- is a good place to start."

Top-Five Qualifiers:

1. Oriol Servia 82.353 = 102.554 mph
2. Jonny Kane 82.486 = 102.388 mph
3. Guy Smith 82.718 = 102.101 mph
4. Didier Andre 82.724 = 102.094 mph
5. Geoff Boss 82.820 = 101.975 mph
