Zachary Claman de Melo, who competed in nine IndyCar races for Dale Coyne Racing this year, will return to Indy Lights next season to race for Belardi Auto Racing.

Claman de Melo shared the #19 Dale Coyne Racing-Honda this season with Pietro Fittipaldi and Santino Ferrucci, who has been retained by DCR to partner Sebastien Bourdais in 2019.

His best start was 13th and best result was 12th, although he seemed set for a top 10 finish at Texas Motor Speedway until struck by Will Power’s Penske.

The 20-year-old Claman de Melo, who won an Indy Lights for Carlin in 2017, said: “I am very excited to be joining Belardi Auto Racing for the upcoming season. The team has a great track record for being very competitive and for getting drivers to IndyCar and keeping them there.

“Being back in Indy Lights will be good for my development as a driver and as a competitor, but my only goal going into this season is to win the championship.”

Belardi Auto Racing team owner Brian Belardi said: “We are thrilled to have someone with Zachary’s caliber of talent join our lineup at Belardi Auto Racing.

“The experience he brings from not only the IndyCar Series, but as a race winning driver in the Indy Lights category will really pay off, and I personally am excited to see where the team goes this year.”
