DAVID MARTINEZ RETURNS TO THE TRACK WITH GENOA LIGHTS AND QUAMTEL
Monterrey, Mexico - August 2, 2010 - David Martinez announced today that he has been selected to drive the Genoa #36 Quamtel car this weekend at the Mid Ohio Sports Car Course in round number 9 of the 2010 Firestone Indy Lights Series.
Although this weekend's event will mark Martinez's debut in the Indy Racing League, he brings with him a wealth of experience and an impressive resume. After successfully climbing the European and North American open-wheel ladders, Martinez advanced to the big leagues and achieved the best-ever debut by a Mexican driver in the now defunct Champ Car World Series when he competed at the 2006 Mexico City Grand Prix. In the following seasons he went on to participate in the Champ Car series as a rookie in a total of four events with impressive results, scoring three top tens and turning the second quickest race lap at his home event in Mexico City in 2007. The young Mexican can also add to his resume a second in class at the 2007 12 Hours of Sebring, a tenth at his debut in the 2009 24 Hours of Daytona, and two consecutive fifth place finishes in the 2005 and 2006 Atlantic Championships. The 28 year old will now focus on applying his skills and experience to replicate his previous successes at the Firestone Indy Lights Series as he follows the Road to Indy and looks to get back to the top and join the IndyCar Series.
Martinez and the Genoa Lights team will be on track together for the first time for Friday's practice session and will have to quickly get up to speed and catch up to the frontrunners as this will also mark the team's 2010 debut in the series. Martinez will have two 45-minute practice sessions, one 45-minute qualifying session, and a 20-minute warm up before he takes the green flag for the 40 lap race.
"I am extremely happy and proud to be able to drive the Quamtel car and to be part of this program with Genoa Lights. There has been a great amount of effort put into making all this happen, we have an impressive group of professionals working with us behind the scenes and we are very confident that all the hard work and preparation will pay off with a top notch program and a strong result on the track.
Even though we are coming in mid-season, I have kept myself mentally and physically ready because I knew the call could come at any time. It's definitely been a crazy few days but I am ready to go. The Genoa Lights team and Quamtel Inc. (OTC: QUMI) have put a lot of hard work into making this happen and they have put their trust in me, so now it's my turn to make it happen on the track.
I have never driven the Indy Lights cars and we won't have a chance to test before the weekend starts so I'm going to have to adapt very quickly. The good thing is that this won't be the first time that I am in that situation, and I have a great team, a great car, and a great engineer behind me, so I'm confident that after only a few laps I'll be able to get up to speed so we can start working on the setup. Mid Ohio is a track that I love and one that I've had success at in the past so I feel very comfortable to make my Indy Racing League debut there."
The group's campaign, "¡Hola Quamtel!" means, "Introducing Quamtel". As a communications company with products spanning almost every modern form of communication, it seems appropriate to use "¡Hola!", because it is universally recognized as a welcome or a greeting. What better way to begin a relationship than with a simple "Hello"?
Martinez will also launch the Racing for Mexico program which will partner with non profit organizations and utilize motor sports to bring together individuals and companies to support the Hispanic community as they celebrate Mexico's bi-centennial anniversary.
