Dan Wheldon will start Sunday's ninth round of the 2001 CART Dayton Indy Lights Championship from third place on the grid at the Gateway International Circuit at St Louis in the USA.

Englishman Wheldon was, in fact, second quickest with a lap time of 30.661 seconds (149.115 mph) during today's ten minute morning practice session around the one and a quarter mile Gateway International oval in his Gemstar Communications PacWest Racing Lola-Buick.

However, for the second consecutive day, rain drastically shortened practice and qualifying time for the race. The practice sessions yesterday (Friday) were cancelled because of bad weather and it was decided that the race will be started from positions based on current Championship positions.

Sunday's 80-lap (100 mile) race is scheduled to start at 11am local time.
