Carlos Muñoz claims maiden series victory in Edmonton

Carlos Muñoz is the winner of today's Firestone Indy Lights race in Edmonton, Alberta, driving the Team Dialy-Ser entry. This is the first career Firestone Indy Lights victory (in nine starts) for the 20-year-old resident of Miami, Florida and native of Colombia. He started today's race from the pole position and won by a dominating margin of more than eight seconds over his teammate Sebastian Saavedra, who finished second.

Muñoz previously raced in the Formula 3 Euroseries from 2010-2011 and competed in the Formula Renault Eurocup from 2007-2009.

Munoz won his first career Indy Lights race today in his ninth start. He started from the pole and crossed the finish line more than eight seconds ahead of his teammate, Sebastian Saavedra, who finished second to complete the Andretti Autosport sweep.

"It was a crazy race. In the rain or in the dry, the car was unbelievable... It feels good to win. I had been so close at Indianapolis and Detroit, and we had always been so fast and I finally got pole position. We were first in every practice session, we won the pole and the race, so it was a perfect weekend and I have to thank my team. It's impossible to do better! My guys did an incredible job.

About the pit stop to change from rain tires to slicks : "It was the second pit stop of my life. I knew we hadn't done any pit stops but my guys were really good, really fast. But Sebastian's guys were a little quicker. I knew I was really fast, so I took it slow and I overtook him... Now I have more experience, I feel better with the car, with the team, and we've been working a lot, so now it's good to win. I hope to continue like this."

Saavedra moved into second place in the Indy Lights championship standings with a second-place finish today.

"It was an amazing day for us, especially after a bad qualifying result on my side. We knew that the points were very important. Right now we're second in the championship and that's incredible for us. One-two for Andretti Autosport, that's amazing job by the guys. We had an amazing pit stop and I really want to thank my guys. And congratulations to (teammate) Carlos (Munoz). He was in a race of his own, and you know there was nothing to catch him. It was a great battle."
