Yacamán Participates in 500 Festival Education Program at IMS
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (April 14, 2010) -- Much to the delight of a group of young students, No. 10 Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing driver Gustavo Yacamán was a special guest at the 500 Festival Education Program at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on April 13.
"It was a nice day at IMS," Yacaman said. "There were more than 1,000 4th graders from around Indiana. All of them were really smart and polite. I stood in front of the IndyCar cut out and explained how the car works. The kids asked me a lot of questions about what it feels like to be in car, how long I have been involved in racing and if I had ever crashed."
The award-winning 500 Festival Education Program opens up the world of the 500 Festival and Indianapolis 500 and their important place in Indiana's history and culture. Through an Indiana Academic Standards based curriculum, the program offers a variety of interesting and thought-provoking lessons and projects and a unique opportunity to visit the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for an educational study trip during the months of April and May.
As a guest driver, Yacaman discussed his racing experience and gave them an insider view of Firestone Indy Lights. At the end of the day, Yacaman himself gained a lot out of the experience.
"It was really cool when one of the kids came up to me and told me that he thought I was awesome. It really made my day!"
