Belardi Auto Racing made official today what those intrepid Firestone Indy Lights fans that stayed up until the wee hours Sunday morning already knew, announcing that the team would no longer be fielding a car for Alon Day.

Day was a mysterious no-show as the Lights car ran their warm-up laps prior to the start of Sunday morning’s Sukup 100 at Iowa Speedway, with the #9 car not appearing on the starting grid after Day had qualified ninth the day before.

Even the broadcasters had no idea what had happened to Day, and Belardi officials were tight-lipped about the situation until today. The team announced today that they are parting on amicable terms with Day – who is the first Israeli driver ever to compete in an American open-wheel racing series in the United States.

"It is very unfortunate that we could no longer continue our business relationship with Alon," said Brian Belardi, team owner of Belardi Auto Racing. "We very much appreciate all of Alon's hard work and time with the team and wish him the very best in the future. He is a talented young man, and we expect to see him succeed wherever he goes."

Day had earned top-10 finishes in four of the six Lights races that he ran this season, topped by a sixth-place run at Barber Motorsports Park. The team expects to name a replacement driver for Day in the next week, and plans to compete in Toronto on July 7.
