2015 Indy Lights silly season update

There is a lot of shuffling going on within the Indy Lights ranks.

The 2015 Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires Championship still does not have a firm schedule, but does have quite a few changes since Motorsport.com's last update, so let’s take a look at what’s changed.

8Star and Belardi confirm intentions

8Star Motorsports has committed to at least one car for next year, with Sean Rayhall more than likely to be their driver. However, more than likely the team will purchase two cars, as they will be looking to expand into open wheel racing beyond just Indy Lights.

Belardi Auto Racing confirmed that they will purchase two IL-15 chassis and one will be piloted by Felix Serralles. The other car has no driver confirmed. Personally, I’d love to see Alex Baron get another shot at a full time drive since he had Visa issues that kept him out of the country during the latter part of the season.

Schmidt's lineup

Schmidt-Peterson Motorsports had Spencer Pigot and NASCAR driver Parker Kligerman testing for them at the Chris Griffis memorial test. Pigot was fastest every day during the test and it’ll be a safe bet that he’ll be piloting a second IL-15 alongside Ethan Ringel, who announced on his Twitter account that he’ll be driving for the team.

New faces

Judging by the Indy Lights teams page, however, there are new faces looking at Indy Lights for 2015. Eric Bachelart apparently has thrown his hat into the ring for an Indy Lights program for 2015 as well as a team called “Dragon Motor Racing,” with headquarters out of Las Vegas. 2014 Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires team champions Juncos Racing will be expanding to Indy Lights next season. Team Moore Racing and Bryan Herta Autosport will also be in for 2015 as will a new team called McCormack Racing.

Notably absent is Andretti Autosport. The team hasn't made a firm commitment for 2015 and is just looking at maintaining a Pro Mazda program for next season in the Mazda Road to Indy.
