RAPHAEL MATOS AND DE FERRAN DRAGON RACING TEAM POST THEIR BEST QUALIFYING SESSION OF THE SEASON AT WATKINS GLEN

After a productive road course test at Mid Ohio Wednesday and the two practice sessions at Watkins Glen Friday and Saturday, Raphael Matos posted his best starting position of the season, qualifying 11th in the IZOD IndyCar Series Camping World Grand Prix at The Glen.

Matos posted a best time of 1:30.5276 to finish 11th, just .4848 shy of reaching the Fast Six. He advanced to the second round by turning a fast lap of 1:30.9383 to finish sixth in his opening round group.

"This qualifying result was a big improvement from some of the last races, so that's a great positive," Matos said. "I'm a little disappointed we didn't get to move on to the Fast 6, but again, it's good to have improved from some previous events."

The de Ferran Dragon Racing team used the mid-week test in Ohio to help improve their road course set up in advance of the next five races, all on road and street courses. The additional work helped deliver the best qualifying result of the season, topping the previous best of 12th in Sao Paulo and Indianapolis.

"We have learned a lot this weekend," Matos said. "We'll just keep working to continue that improvement. Tomorrow's race will be long and physical. We'll take what we've learned and use it to hopefully produce a good result tomorrow."
