DREYER & REINBOLD RACING RIGHT ON PACE DURING PRACTICE FOR THE HONDA GRAND PRIX OF ST. PETERSBURG
St. Petersburg, FL (March 26, 2010)- Today was a matter of putting the laps in and getting the car just right for tomorrow's qualifying, and that is exactly what Dreyer & Reinbold Racing accomplished today in St. Petersburg. It turned out to be a very successful day for DRR pilots Mike Conway (No. 24 Dad's Root Beer), and Justin Wilson (No. 22 Z-Line Designs) as they practiced for the second round of the IZOD IndyCar Series, the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.
Right off the bat, Wilson proved again that he's got the speed. In the first session it was all about dialing the car in and trying new things. He clocked the ninth quickest time in practice one with a time of 1:04.4942. As the second session rolled around, the changes that were made were successful and the Brit clocked the third quickest time of 1:03.0575 in practice two.
It was a similar story for Wilson's teammate, Conway. Today was meant for trying different things and that's what the No. 24 Dad's Root Beer crew did. Unfortunately, it wasn't the direction the team was hoping to go in, but luckily they found what they need and have a path to go down tomorrow. The 26-year old was 15th fastest in the first and second sessions with times of 1:04.9805 and 1:03.5431.
What they have to say about the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg^a
Justin Wilson, No. 22 Z-Line Designs: "We have constantly been working on the car today and have made some good improvements. I really like the way the Z-Line Designs car feels now. I didn't get the best lap out of it today, so I'm optimistic for tomorrow, but there are still some things that we want to try. We keep ticking everything off and so far everything that we have tried has worked. Tomorrow will be good and we will keep working. Right now it's pretty clear what we need to do, so I think that it's good."
Mike Conway, No. 24 Dad's Root Beer: "Today was okay. We went in a different direction than what Justin did in the last session and I think it wasn't the right way for us. Tomorrow we will just dial it back. As you could see out there, it's very competitive and the times are extremely close. If you are a little bit away it really draws you back. We are just going to work on some things that we know we want to change for tomorrow and we are looking for a better qualifying. It's a shame that the Dad's Root Beer car wasn't a bit further up today, but we were just trying some things we have never tried before, so it was good to get that out of the way and we know what direction to go in now and I think that we will be good for tomorrow."
