Spencer Pigot gets Indy car test with Penske

The Indy Lights star will test an Indy car for Team Penske on Thursday

On Thursday, Spencer Pigot will join Nelson Piquet Jr. in a test with Team Penske at Sonoma Raceway. Pigot currently sits second in the Indy Lights standings after winning four races in his rookie season. Just two races remain before a champion is crowned.

Prior to Indy Lights, the 21-year-old won the 2014 Pro Mazda title and scored seven wins over a period of two years in that division. In 2011 and 2012, he competed in the USF 2000 series, winning 11 races and placing second in points both seasons.

“It’s still hard to believe I’m going to be driving a Team Penske car,” said Pigot in a release. “I’ve been watching this team compete for as long as I can remember, and working with them is going to be an amazing experience.

“My main objective for the test is to learn as much as possible from the team about the car, and to help them out in any way I can. I think the timing of the test is great because I wouldn’t be in a race car at all in August without this test day. This is going to help me stay sharp and equip myself for the final Indy Lights races at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in September.”
