Sonoma Returns Success to Lloyd
Sonoma, California -- In a Question and Answer session with fifty Boy Scouts this morning, Alex Lloyd, driver of the Boy Scouts of America #19 car, was asked about his favorite tracks to race. Lloyd mentioned three, citing the location of today's race, Infineon Raceway, as one of them. Since his debut at Infineon in 2006, Lloyd has had nothing but success on this course. While competing as a part of the Indy Lights Series, he won both times he raced at Infineon. He said he has fond memories and is expecting to keep those memories.
"I guess I should knock on wood now that I've said that," Lloyd commented.
It worked; a test at the track last weekend and a dedicated weekend of practice allowed Lloyd to continue the success he has continually found at this track. After qualifying 22nd on Saturday, the team worked hard overnight on changes to the car and the changes got Lloyd running 6th during today's morning warm-up. With thousands of Boy Scouts in the stands and around the track today, Lloyd advanced 12 positions during the course of the race, bringing him and the team their third Top-Ten finish of the season.
"Very good day for the BSA crew today," Lloyd said. "Our strategy worked really well and our changes to the car overnight really gave us a very good race car, one that we could move through the field quickly with. It's great to have a Top-Ten with all the BSA officials here for the first time since Indy. We look forward to getting back to the ovals and continuing this success."
In the race for Rookie of the Year, Lloyd added to his lead on Simona De Silvestro today, increasing his lead to 11 points.
Lloyd's performance in today's race earned him a nomination for Firestone's Tire-ific Award. Fans may vote for Lloyd as their Firestone Tire-ific Move of the Race Winner at IndyCar.com
