Simon Pagenaud on top in Phoenix

Saturday afternoon testing at Phoenix International Raceway ended with Simon Pagenaud putting Team Penske on top, as five cars hit average speeds above 190mph.

Pagenaud lapped the 1.022-mile tri-oval at 190.747mph, just 0.0033mph faster than Ed Carpenter Racing duo Josef Newgarden and Ed Carpenter, heading up a session dominated by Chevrolet-powered cars.

Tony Kanaan rebounded from a quiet Friday with fourth fastest in the Chip Ganassi Racing #10 entry, narrowly eclipsing Team Penske’s Will Power.

Top Honda runner was Marco Andretti in the Andretti Autosport #27 grabbing P6, 2.2mph shy of Pagenaud’s benchmark. That was still enough to edge him ahead of 2015 IndyCar title rivals Scott Dixon and Juan Montoya.

Graham Rahal in the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing-Honda was ninth.

Ganassi’s rookie Max Chilton ended the session in 15th, while oval-racing novice Luca Filippi was 18th, 0.0018s ahead of Dale Coyne Racing teammate Conor Daly.
