Rosenqvist set to test a Ganassi IndyCar again
Motorsport.com has learned that Felix Rosenqvist will reprise his role of sharing Scott Dixon’s #9 Chip Ganassi Racing-Honda in this Thursday’s IndyCar test at Mid-Ohio.
The 2015 European Formula 3 champion tested for the team last July, too, and deeply impressed Chip Ganassi, team director Mike Hull, Dixon and his race engineer Chris Simmons.
Rosenqvist, who competed on a restricted schedule in last year’s Indy Lights championship and scored three wins and three poles in 10 races with Belardi Auto Racing, currently lies third in the Formula E championship, in which he competes for Mahindra Racing.
The Swede also participates in the Japan-based Super Formula series for Team LeMans, taking his first podium finish at Fuji earlier this month.
After last year’s test, Hull commented that he felt Rosenqvist was already deserving of a seat in IndyCar, stating: “I think he’s ready to move up. If you look at his results in several other championships, he’s been a success at every level.”
“I’m going by what Chris Simmons told me, and he was very impressed. Felix ran over 90 laps, more than a race distance, and didn’t put a wheel wrong.
“I think we found out that Felix is a terrifically talented guy, and the races and championships he’s won globally were not by accident.”
Ex-F1 and Indy car driver Stefan Johansson, who manages both Dixon and Rosenqvist, could not be reached for comment, and the team too remains tight-lipped on the plan for Thursday’s test.
Last year, Rosenqvist tested the #9 CGR car in the morning, with Dixon resuming duties in the afternoon.
