FONTANA, Calif. (September 16, 2012) – Service Central Chip Ganassi Racing (SCCGR) driver Graham Rahal finished 18th in the MAVTV 500 INDYCAR World Championships at Auto Club Speedway. The result came in his 92nd IZOD IndyCar Series career start.
The No. 38 Service Central Honda started the 250-lap race from 18th position. The MAVTV 500 would undergo seven caution periods resulting in a total of 43 laps. After a total of four caution periods within the first 108 laps of the race around the 2-mile oval, Rahal worked his way up to a consistent top-10 position by lap 111. The No. 38 car would spend the majority of the race in the top-10. Through the final caution on lap 241, Rahal would find himself in eighth position. With a restart on lap 244 Rahal would battle the No. 38 from seventh to sixth with four laps remaining where he would eventually cross the finish line for his seventh top-10 of the season.
With the result, Rahal finishes the season in 10th position in the IZOD IndyCar Series point standings with 333 markers, -135 points behind Championship winner Ryan Hunter-Reay.
Graham Rahal: “Overall, it was a really good day for the team and I’m really pleased. The Service Central Chip Ganassi Racing team did a superb job. We stuck with it. There were times where we were good and there were times where we were bad. At the end of the day we stuck with the fight and we worked hard. We had a really good effort tonight.”
