Panther kicks off Pennzoil Grand Prix of Houston with Friday practice
National Guard Panther Racing Team prepares for double-header weekend with Oriol Servia
HOUSTON, Tex. (October 4, 2013) – The National Guard Panther Racing team and driver Oriol Servia kicked-off the Pennzoil Grand Prix of Houston weekend with two 45-minute practice sessions on the temporary 1.634-mile street course. The day’s activities were delayed by several hours as IndyCar officials had to make repairs to the surface of the track before IndyCars took the track. Ultimately, qualifications were cancelled, and a temporary alteration to the layout was made that will be switched back tomorrow after officials are able to complete some repairs this evening.
Drivers will be back on track early tomorrow to make their qualification run for Saturday’s first race of the weekend, which will begin with a standing start.
Oriol Servia, No. 4 National Guard Chevrolet: “I have to be honest, after our performance in Baltimore and how the National GuardChevy felt, I thought we were going to be Top Five every session here – and we were not. I think the track caught us a little bit by surprise and it wasn’t completely what we expected. Even still, my best lap of the day didn’t count and we would have been P-10 or P-11, so we’re better than it looks, but we have to sharpen up our act a little bit.”
