Nashville Predator Dan Ellis to Serve as Grand Marshal for Firestone Indy 200; Starting goaltender to participate in race-day activities at Nashville Superspeedway
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 8, 2008) - In an announcement that links two of the Nashville-area's premier sports entities, Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire, LLC (BFNT) has announced that Dan Ellis, starting goaltender for the Nashville Predators, will serve as Grand Marshal for the Firestone Indy 200 at Nashville Superspeedway on Saturday, July 12, 2008.
"I am really looking forward to serving as the grand marshal for the Firestone Indy 200," Ellis said. "Bridgestone Firestone is such a great partner of our team and the NHL, and when this opportunity arose, I jumped at it. I know these IndyCar Series cars are really, really fast machines and they put on a great show under the lights at Nashville Superspeedway. I'm excited to have the opportunity not only to serve as the grand marshal but to also get behind the scenes at the track, meet some of these talented drivers and just take in all the action."
As part of his duties, Ellis will announce the most famous words in racing - "drivers, start your engines," prior to the start of the event. He will participate in pre-race ceremonies, including driver introductions on the IndyCar Series stage, as well as post-race activities in victory circle - most notably, presenting the winner of this year's Firestone Indy 200 with the coveted Gibson Guitar trophy.
"The Bridgestone brand is the Official Tire of the National Hockey League and a great partner with the Nashville Predators, and as such, we felt this would be the perfect opportunity to leverage that relationship to benefit the Firestone brand's title sponsorship of the annual IndyCar Series event in our own 'backyard,'" commented Phil Pacsi, Vice President, Consumer Tire Mark eting, BFNT. "We believe the fans that fill the stands at Nashville Superspeedway will be thrilled to see one of their hometown sports heroes out supporting the Firestone Indy 200."
