PHOENIX, Ariz. (March 19, 2000) -- The Indy Racing League and U.S. F2000 National Championship Presented by Speedvision have announced the continuation of the Road To Indy Oval Champions program. The 2000 U.S. F2000 Road To Indy Oval Crown Champion will receive a $5,000 cash bonus at the conclusion of the three-race series-within-a-series, including races at Phoenix International Raceway and two events at the Indianapolis Raceway Park. The Road To Indy Oval Champions programs support young drivers in open-wheel series in their efforts to climb the racing ladder into the upper echelon of motorsports, including the Indianapolis 500. The Indy Racing League, sanctioning body for the Indy Racing Northern Light Series, began its support of the U.S. F2000 National Championship's Oval Crown Championship in 1998, spawning the Road To Indy Oval Crown in 1999. "We're very pleased to continue the relationship between the Indy Racing Northern Light Series and U.S. F2000 National Championship for the third year," said Andy Hall, Director of Corporate and Sponsor Relations for the Indy Racing League. "Many of the top drivers in our series, including our 1999 Champion Greg Ray, have come from the U.S. F2000 ranks, which is a testament to the competition and developmental nature of the series." "We feel that participation in the Road To Indy Oval Champions program is critical in encouraging young drivers to participate in the U.S. F2000 National Championship as a means of gaining the necessary experience to move up the racing ladder," said Kurt Hunt, U.S. F2000 National Championship Director of Marketing. The U.S. F2000 Road To Indy Oval Crown kicks-off its 2000 season at Phoenix International Raceway March 19 as part of the MCI WorldCom 200.
