VISION RACING RETURNS TO LAND OF THE RISING SUN FOR INDY JAPAN 300
TEAM IS EXCITED TO RETURN TO OVAL RACING AT TWIN RING MOTEGI
MOTEGI, Japan (April 16, 2008) - The third race of the 2008 IndyCar Series has Vision Racing in Japan for the Indy Japan 300 held at Twin Ring Motegi and the team is excited to take to the 1.5-mile D-shape oval. Given that team drivers Ed Carpenter and A.J. Foyt IV took fifth and ninth in the season-opener on the 1.5-mile oval at Homestead-Miami Speedway, the team is very much looking forward to the next oval race on the schedule.
Carpenter, who is currently 10th in the IndyCar Series point standings will be piloting the No. 20 Menards Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone in his fifth race at Twin Ring Motegi. Last year Carpenter earned his first running finish at the track when he started 16th and finished 15th. The year prior, in 2006, he finished 20th due to an accident. In 2005 he finished 16th also as a result of an accident and was 22nd in 2004 due to mechanical failure.
He said, "The Menards car ran very well at Homestead and I think we can translate some of that over to Motegi since they are both ovals. So I think it will be good to get out there. I think we can make up some ground at Motegi which we might have lost at St. Pete. If we can come out of here with a good finish and a good race, then that will set us up nicely for Kansas next weekend. And coming away with a good finish and clean race at Kansas is important too because that just sets you up with some momentum heading into the month of May. So this is a big weekend for us and is really the start of some big opportunities to move ahead of the competition."
Carpenter has been running at the finish in both races this season as has his teammate, Foyt, in the No. 2 Vision Racing Honda powered Dallara who will also be making his fifth attempt at Twin Ring Motegi.
Foyt started 14th in 2007 at Twin Ring Motegi and drove to a 14th place finish for Vision Racing. In 2003 and 2004 he was running at the finish as well and finished 14h and 15th respectively. In 2005 he finished 18th due to an accident.
"It's fun to be back in Japan and I'm really looking forward to getting back on an oval. Knowing how well we ran on the oval at Homestead really has me looking forward to this race because I think we can put together a good car and do really well here."
