Justin qualifies 18th for Indy Japan 300
Justin will line up on the ninth row of the grid for Sunday's Indy Japan 300 at Twin Ring Motegi after qualifying 18th in the No. 22 Kona Deep car with a 2-lap average qualifying speed of 196.850 mph. Team Penske qualified 1-2-3, with Helio Castroneves on pole with an average qualifying speed of 201.992 mph. Paul Tracy, Justin's Dreyer & Reinbold Racing team-mate for this weekend, qualified 22nd in the No. 24 Motegi Racing Wheels entry (195.709 mph).
The result was some way off the top-10 qualifying performance Justin was aiming for this weekend, reflecting the struggles he and the team had during practice to find a good balance in the No. 22 car.
"It wasn't exactly the day that we were looking for, but we'll just keep working on it," said Justin. "We had a lot of understeer all day and then in qualifying the car was really loose. Unfortunately, I couldn't commit the speed I was looking for. Tomorrow we just need to try and have a good, smart race. This race gets pretty crazy at times. It's a hard track to race on, so we just need to make sure that we don't make any mistakes and look after the car."
